Happy Father’s Day to all of our members, families, supporters, and friends. Yesterday, Saturday, 6/17/2018 the Next Generation Committee (NGC)of Laborers’ Local 332 held a very special and moving event. Our members honored the sacrifices and examples of men who embrace fatherhood with all of its significant meanings and aspirations. The members honored at this prestigious event were: Luis Nunez, Juwan Campbell Sr., Allen Harcum, Peter Lyde Sr., Garcia “Jack” Louis, ‘Uncle’ Tony Lewis, and Malik Staten. Families and friends shared moving tributes to these men that stirred the emotions and feelings of everyone who attended the event. Eyes filed with tears has sons and daughters described the inspiration, knowledge, and joy they received from their hard-working fathers. The NGC held this event to bring members of our Local closer together. It’s committee that is dedicated to bridging the generation gaps between some of our older members and the youth in our Local. The brochure passed out at the brunch conveys this perfectly:
“The Next Generation Committee began with an event similar to this one. The Business Manager, Samuel Staten Jr. saw it very necessary to bridge the gap between the older and younger membership. He assembled union Fathers and Sons together to begin a dialogue on how to make our Union stronger. Because we communicate differently this helped both generations of members. The next generation of members has learned the importance of being active and the results of commitment. The veteran members can be comforted in the fact that all of their energy and efforts in continuing the organizational goals will be carried on. This conversation will also translate to better management of relationships overall concerning men and the roles in their lives. Whether it be Husband, Father or Union Brother etc.”
