The Friends of Labor ‘Black Tie’ Tribute Dinner

On Saturday, October 31st, 2016 the Friends of Labor Committee of Laborers’ Local 332 held its annual ‘Black Tie’ Dinner Awards. In a tradition started by the late Laborers’ Local 332 Icon, Sam Staten Sr, the Friends of Labor Committee extended a special award-‘The Sammy” to two deserving men in the field of Labor and in our community.
This year’s recipients of the prestigious “Sammy” Awards were given to two deserving, hard working men who represent a standard of excellence in our community and our Labor industry.
Gary Masino, President of the Sheet Metal Workers #19 was honored as the Labor Man of the Year. Darrell Clarke, Philadelphia City Council President, was honored as an Outstanding Community Leader.
This special event raised over $73,000 for charity, and since it’s inception, the Friends of Labor Black Tie Dinner has raised well over $1,000,000 for charity.
This event also featured a special poetic tribute from Perry Visionpoet Divirgilio, a rising star in the Spoken Word Arts, to the late great Sam Staten Sr.
