Laborers Local 332 Supports Anthony Hardy Williams for Mayor

On May 19th, Democratic voters in Philadelphia have a very important decision to make in the primary election for Mayor. We have to decide who is the best candidate to push Philadelphia forward, to help bring jobs to our neighborhoods, to make education and our public schools a priority, to make our streets clean and safe.
For the Laborers of Local 332 along with our Laborers District Council of Philadelphia and Vicinity the choice is obvious and clear.

We support Anthony Hardy Williams as the next Mayor of Philadelphia.

He is the right man for the job. Anthony Hardy Williams brings a wealth of experience to the table. Mr Williams earned his economics degree at Franklin & Marshall, and worked as an executive for PepsiCo in New York City. He then ran his own vending business before entering into the political arena where he has spent 22 years in the General Assembly, the last dozen in the Senate. Williams represents the 8th Senatorial District, including Southwest Philadelphia and parts of South and West Philadelphia along with nine suburban communities in Delaware County (Collingdale, Colwyn, Darby Borough, Darby Township, Folcroft, Lansdowne, Norwood, Sharon Hill and Yeadon).

Over the course of his legislative career, Anthony has fearlessly sought to help Philadelphia public school students get access to a strong education. He has fought for improvement of Philadelphia’s property tax system without negatively affecting seniors or working-class families, and much more.
At a special event held at Laborers Local 332 announcing our support for Mr Williams candidacy , Anthony Hardy Williams reiterated his commitment to working-families. He also emphasized the need for the inclusion of people of color in our neighborhoods to union jobs and trades-something that we at Local 332 and Mr Williams have always strongly supported. He stated:

“When we build the stadiums we helped create a program that required inclusion and diversity. The stadiums were going to be built by unions so Sam Staten Sr started the Diversity Apprenticeship Program (DAP) that not only allowed us not only to build union but also guaranteed the people of our neighborhoods would be apart of that process. So the Laborers are one element but we now also have people of color serving as Electricians, Carpenters, and Plumbers that would not have previously had that opportunity. So I’ll be fighting for jobs and I’ll also be fighting for people in the neighborhoods to be apart of those unions.”

This is why we support Anthony Hardy Williams for Mayor of Philadelphia and we urge all of our members of Local 332 to do the same!
