For the first time in Pennsylvania’s history, an incumbent Governor has been voted out of office! Tom Wolf with the help and hard work of Unions defeated Tom Corbett! Our members of Laborers’ Local 332 were an active presence throughout Philadelphia in getting the vote out to help in this historic victory!
Now there is much work still to do! We need reform on education, a more positive role and attitude towards Unions, and more.
With Corbett out…we now have an excellent opportunity to protect our jobs.
When he takes office in January, Wolf faces some huge challenges created by Tom Corbett’s failures as Governor. Corbett was a disaster: Pennsylvania’s jobless rate rose to the national average for the first time in more than 4 year, $1 billion in cuts to education, and millions of dollars in tax breaks to fat cat corporations. Make no mistake about it, Tom Wolf faces some tough challenges. With a hostile Republican-controlled Legislature, Wolf must restore the damages done to education by Corbett and invest in our public schools. Tom Wolf must also follow up on his campaign promise to protect the right of workers to unionize and collectively bargain! He has made clear that he would veto any Republican legislation that seeks to restrict the rights of workers.
Despite the challenges, voters in Pennsylvania took a step in the right direction with a historic firing of Tom Corbett.
Laborers’ Local 332 members our efforts helped to make history! The first incumbent Governor in Pennsylvania’s history to be denied a second term!
Congratulations to Governor Tom Wolf! Pennsylvania can now see some better days!
