Laborers’ Local 332-November 6th-Get Out And Vote!

November 6, 2018 is a very important day for us as members of Laborers’ Local 332. Its Election Day and so much is at stake! Our Governor, Tom Wolf is being opposed by Republican, Scott Wagner who has made it very clear what he intends to do for workers if he is elected Governor:
“We need to become a right-to-work state. What it would do for us is just amazing,” Wagner said.
“Right to Work” is of course an effort to break unions and their ability to collectively bargain for our fair wages and benefits. It is a legislation that “guarantees that no person can be compelled, as a condition of employment, to join or not to join, nor to pay dues to a labor union.”
Exactly who the ‘us’ that Wagner is referring to is clear. “Right to work” legislation is invariably driven by employers, industry associations and lobbyists. Employers love “right to work,” because it really means “right to work for less.” …but the ‘us’ that are Union workers that believe in fair wages and benefits-Wagner would be an absolute disaster that we can’t afford!  As Governor, Tom Wolf has proven that he is in our corner. Wolf when asked about “right to work’ made his position clear:

I am against right-to-work,” said Tom Wolf during a visit to Johnstown Wire Technologies in the city’s West End. “I don’t really understand the logic behind it. In a democratic system, where the majority of workers vote to join a union, I’m not sure what gives a minority the right to say ‘we’ll take advantage of the benefits of the union, but we’re not going to pay for the cost. It’s sort of like me, if I don’t vote for a particular governor, does that give me the right to say I’m not going to pay my taxes, but I am going to use the roads and the bridges and things like that? I don’t think so. It seems to me it strikes at the heart of democratic fairness.

We need someone who supports working men and women.  We need Tom Wolf back in the Governor’s office.

While the Governor’s race is important, we can’t neglect our need for State Representatives and Senators. We can’t forget Senator Bob Casey and US Congressman Dwight Evans and the need to keep them in office to help protect the rights of working people. Please consider them on Election Day
Election Day is extremely important for us as members of Laborers’ Local 332. We need all hands on deck to come help us get the vote out on Election Day.
